Celebrate the autumn evenings with a twilight stroll around Chamberlain Park Public Golf Course. We’ll be listening out for ruru / morepork, casting torches over Waitītiko which runs around and through the golf course, and using portable bat detectors listening out for pekapeka roa, our endangered, native, long-tailed bats. It is quite likely we won’t hear or see any bats, but they have been detected as close as Henderson.

We’ll be joined by members of a couple of local conservation groups. Chamberlain Conservation Group have been drastically reducing rat and possum numbers while also reducing weeds and planning future native planting. STEPS work throughout the Waitītiko / Meola Creek catchment and are driving the restoration of Norgrove Reserve lava rock forest, which flanks the south side of the golf course.

Bring strong footwear, something warm to wear and a torch (preferably with a red light or a red filter). There will be no public toilets nearby, so go beforehand. If it is raining we’ll delay to another day.

The nearest bus routes run along St Luke’s Rd (5min walk from the clubrooms) and the Baldwin Ave train station is 10min walk away.
