Mice (Mus musculus) are not one of the target species for the Predator Free New Zealand movement, but mice do matter. Urban Ark and the groups it supports mainly target rats and possums (lower-hanging fruit), however mice have devastating impacts on our native skinks and geckos, invertebrates, and can even impact our seabirds.
Areas with effective rat control often see mice numbers increase dramatically. You can trap for mice by purchasing smaller and more sensitive traps and placing them in a station that rats cannot fit into. You can also use bait stations which will effectively target both rats and mice.
