Pest Free Balmoral wants to see the Balmoral and Mt Eden area “Bursting with native wildlife”. We are supported by the good people at Urban Ark - Manawa Taiao. We would like your help to boost biodiversity by removing predators, especially rats, from your backyard.
Our local Watling Reserve is home to tui, pīwakawaka, riririro, visiting kereru and a kaka even dropped by for a few days in 2021! So, as part of our plan we are building a Watling Reserve Halo (a zone of high density trapping) around the park. This will provide a safer place for native birds to live and breed, so they can spread across the wider area.
If Pest Free Balmoral is something you are keen to support, we can provide a free rat trap in a protective safety box. Possum traps are also available as loan items. We will give you a quick training session on how to use your trap safely and effectively. All you need to do is bait it regularly and report any catches to the group leader by email.
